    Obituary
    Lola V. Curtis, 89, of Narragansett Avenue, Narragansett, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1992, at South County Hospital. She was the wife of the late retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Benjamin R. Curtis.
    Born in Narragansett, Nov. 29, 1902, she was a daughter of the late William P. and Jessie (Braman) Briggs.
    Mrs. Curtis worked in the dining service at the former Rhode Island State College, now the University of Rhode Island, for 15 years before retiring in 1953. She was also an assistant librarian at the Narragansett Pier Free Library for many years.
    After graduating from high school, she taught in a one-room school on Point Judith Road, Point Judith.
    During World War II, she served as an airplane spotter at the former Narragansett Town Hall/Fire Station, Rodman Street.
    She was a member of Nestell Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter member of the Beechwood Association. She was a member of the Narragansett Garden Club, and the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society. She was active in the Narragansett Girl Scouts, and the Narragansett PTA, and served as its president.
    She leaves two sons, retired Army Col. Robert R. Curtis of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Benjamin R. Curtis Jr., with whom she made her home; a daughter, Virginia McGregor of Seekonk, Mass.; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
    She was grandmother of the late Andrew McGregor, and sister of the late Edith Gardiner and Harriet Newberry.
    The funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. in the Peace Dale Congregational Church, Columbia Street, Peace Dale. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Wakefield. Arrangements were made by Forbes Funeral Home in Wakefield.
