    Notes:

    RITTMAN -- Ashton O. Hall, 88, of Rittman, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital.
    Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Milton Presbyterian Church in Rittman, with the Rev. James E. Watt officiating. Private burial will be at Rittman Cemetery.
    Friends will be received today (Monday) from 4-7 at Gillman Funeral Home in Rittman, or one hour prior to the services at the church.
    He was born May 4, 1914, in Youngstown to Rex and Elsie (Tribby) Hall and married Vi Woodford on March 10, 1946. She survives.
    He was a graduate of Brookfield High School and Kent State University, where he had done his graduate studies. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he had served in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Normandy and Central European campaigns. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and European African Middle Eastern medal with five battle stars.
    He had made his home in Rittman since 1940, and was a teacher and coach at Rittman High School for 40 years. He was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame, Pennsylvania-Ohio Baseball Hall of Fame, Wall of Fame in the Rittman School System and Wayne County Officials Hall of Fame.
    He had served six years on city council and 24 years as mayor of Rittman. While serving as mayor, he organized a volunteer group of drivers to take people to area hospitals and other medical appointments. He was instrumental in getting the Adult Basic Education Program started where students could obtain their GED certificate.
    He was a 50-year member of Milton Presbyterian Church, a member of Hartford Masonic Lodge and served on the Wayne County Library Board. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
    Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Daryl (Maureen) Hall of Mansfield and Cherie Hall of Rittman; grandchildren, Brian Hall and Laura Hall; brothers, Carl (Laverne) Hall of Philadelphia, Dale Hall of Youngstown and Paul (Helen) Hall of Boynton Beach, Fla..; and sisters, Edna Barber of Masury, Ada Messmer of Sharon, Pa., and Doris Hutchison of Brookfield.
