1412 This will represents the final disposal of his grandfather's, Jonathan Brown's, farm in Washington County, New York. As Leonard had no direct descendants, he directed that, if none of his nieces or nephews named in his will had an interest in acquiring the property, it could then be sold at auction and the proceeds distributed. The executor of the will complied with this direction by eventually selling the said property in 1907.

1415 THOMAS, Elisha Smith, P. E. Bishop, born in Wickham, Massachusetts, 2 March, 1834. He was graduated at Yale in 1858, and at Berkeley divinity-school, Middletown, Connecticut, in 1861, was ordered deacon in June, 1861, and priest soon afterward. He was at once put in charge of St. Paul's church, New Haven, where he remained three years. In 1864 he was elected rector of Seabury Hall, Faribault, Minnesota, and professor of Old and New Testament exegesis there. On the resignation and removal of Dr. James L. Breck, he succeeded him in the secretaryship of the Seabury mission. He spent the year 1869 abroad, studying the Semitic languages and attending lectures on New Testament exegesis. On his return he was elected rector of St. Mark's church, Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he remained five years. On 1 July, 1876, he became rector of St. Paul's church, St. Paul, Minnesota He was deputy from the diocese to three successive general conventions, and also a member, and for several years president, of the diocesan standing committee, trustee of the Bishop Seabury mission, and of St Mary's Hall and the Breck mission and farm. He was consecrated assistant bishop of Kansas, in St. Paul's church, St. Paul, Minnesota, 4 May, 1887, and received the degree of D.D. from Yale the same year Thomas, Elisha Smith (I5572)

1416 Though U.S. census records, 1870 and 1880, indicate her name was "Mary," she apparently preferred the nickname "Minnie." City Directory listings in 1880s, when she was old enough to be listed, note her as "Minnie." Even her parents, when ordering her cemetery marker used the nickname "Minnie."

She was born on a gorgeous farm in Saranac, near that of both sets of grandparents. According to a letter written by maternal grandmother Lydia Butler Guynup in 1879, the Badgers had tired of farming so Minnie's father Eleazer moved his family to Manchester where he would work in a factory. It was likely far less pleasant than the recruiting advertisements touted. Minnie worked in a factory from about age 14, tragically died of consumption.

1442 Walter E. Cotter, age 104, of Woodland Road, Barrington, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth "Betty" M. (Martin) Cotter. Walter was always the dignified gentleman, whether in business, social engagements, golf or family matters. A person of moderation, he always had a job, and was often sought after for his dedication, trustworthiness and industry. He never hesitated to speak his mind, but always did so with grace and compassion.

Born in Providence, a son of the late William H. and Sadie (Barney) Cotter, Walter lived in Barrington since 1954. He graduated from South Kingstown High School, went to work in his hometown of Wakefield as a store clerk, then as a newspaper reporter, then as car dealership bookkeeper. He attended Georgetown University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he developed a mail system for the Naval Post Office that succeeded his tenure in the Navy.

Mr. Cotter was hired by Aetna Casualty, where he acquired the enviable knack of tuning out the din of the office, while focusing on the matter of underwriting insurance. In 1956 he formed the insurance agency now known as Burns & Cotter, where he stayed active well into his retirement years. Walter enjoyed tennis, racing on a friend's S-boat, and watching his family grow. An avid golfer, he was a 60 year member of Rhode Island Country Club, where a recent plaque is named for him and his achievement of shooting his age at least once a year from the age of 79 to 91.

He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth "Lisbeth" C. Herbst and her husband Dave of Bristol; two sons, Walter B. Cotter of Riverside and John M. Cotter and his wife Susan of Englewood, FL; a brother, Richard S. Cotter of Idaho Falls, ID; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late William H. Cotter, Jr. and Alice "Sis" Robinson.

Walter's firm handshake belied his gentleness. His confident stride belied his humility. His patient wisdom of stating, "There is no penalty for being early!" showed us that we were blessed to have his guidance. Now, in his passing, he is not early, but rather he seems to be right on time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington. Relatives and friends are invited, and may visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 -10:30 a.m. A private burial, with military honors, will be held at St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Please omit flowers. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Luke's Church
