• Notes

  Maria sold what she had back in Lamoille, VT, paid her debts, gathered a few pupils, and taught school one summer in her sister's house. She then taught in La Moille and boarded around among the patrons. She m. 2nd Nov. 3, 1843 Martin Hopps, a carpenter who took up land and became a successful farmer near La Moille, originally of Charlotte Co., New Brunswick, Canada, and had three more sons. Maria is buried in the Greenfield town cemetery in La Moille, Ill. between her husbands. [2]
