- Obituary
Roland Arthur Nagle, 80, of Winona died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis. Roland was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Winona County to Maurice and Catherine (McNally) Nagle.
After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an engineer fire fighter. At the age of 48, Roland married Shirley Lande on Jan. 18, 1975. He also inherited five stepchildren and their families.
He had farmed most of his life with his brother Charles in the Witoka area until 1990. He sold the farm to retire. While retired, Roland decided to work for the Quality Inn Hotel, Fairway Woods, and finally Riverside Electronics until the age of 73.
Shirley passed away Oct. 28, 1985. Roland was left to see all the families grow. He enjoyed the fun that came along with being Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. He'd laugh when we would say "can you believe all this came out of your marriage to our mother". He would just smile and say he was "very happy to have us all." Roland will be truly missed by all his family and friends. Thank you Roland for all your love over the years.
Roland is survived by his five stepchildren; Richard (Kathy) Lande, Shirleen (Bruce) Larson, Lynette Evanson all of Winona, Linda Kranz of Rochester, Minn., and Ron (Sandy) Lande of Rollingstone, Minn.; 13 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister; Grace Benike of Dawson, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Mabel Nagle of Goodview, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, eight brothers, and two sisters.
Roland's memorial service will be Saturday, June 24, at St. Anne's Extended Healthcare Chapel of Our Lady in Winona at 1 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the chapel.
